ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

High school graduates are required to register in the Faculty of Science and complete the qualifying pre-kinesiology courses prior to applying to the kinesiology program. This four-year degree program requires students to apply to the second year following completion of a required set of courses in the first year of university studies. Admission is based upon a two-stage process.

Admission to Pre-Kinesiology qualifying year:
Minimum of 70% overall average in five grade 12 academic subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and one other academic course. Note: High school applicants should apply by March 1 to be considered in the University’s annual scholarship review process.  See Undergraduate Application and Admission Requirements section of the Academic Calendar.

Admission to the Kinesiology program (Application deadline March 31):
Admission to the second year of the program is based upon competitive entry as follows:

  • a minimum requirement of 70% overall average in first-year university required courses, and a minimum of 60% in Kinesiology 101 (UPEI course numbers in brackets)
  • One introductory Biology course in Cell and Molecular Biology (Biology 131)
  • Two courses in introductory Chemistry (Chem 111/112)
  • One course in Calculus (Math 112; alternatively, Math 151/152 can be taken)
  • One course in introductory Kinesiology (Kin 101)
  • Two courses in introductory Psychology (Psy 101/102)
  • One course in critical thinking and writing (Global Issues 151) or an English Composition course for students not required to take GI 151

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an approved or accredited university is required. A minimum average of 75% or a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) in the last twenty courses of a baccalaureate nursing program is required. Prior completion of a Research Methods course, an Introductory Statistics course, and a course in Nursing Theory, or equivalent, with a minimum grade of 70% in each course is required.

Individuals applying for the Nurse Practitioner Stream, must have a minimum of two (2) years experience in clinical nursing practice. Proof of active practicing nurse registration in Canada is necessary (i.e. proof of registration card). Once enrolled in the program, all students must maintain active practicing nurse registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island.

Upon acceptance into the Master of Nursing program, students must submit a completed up-to-date immunization record, a certified criminal record check, and confirmation of current CPR Certification at the Health Care Provider level.

Aboriginal-specific Scholarships and Bursaries

John J. Sark Memorial Scholarship

Open to Canadian, Aboriginal residents of First Nations status or non-status (as recognized the Federal Government). Applicants must hold a valid Certificate of Indian status card. Must be a returning, full time, undergraduate student at UPEI (2nd, 3rd, or 4th year). Must maintain a strong academic record in your chosen field of study. Include a personal statement outlining how the knowledge and skills you have acquired over the last year(s) at UPEI has contributed to your academic goals. Applicants should also discuss new challenges and opportunities experienced, lessons learned, and how all of these experiences will impact their involvement in the First Nations, Inuit, or Metis community. Maximum award: $1,000.
